Small Business Hosting Costs

A small business I would be referring to would have roughly 1-10 employees.  Every company needs a web presence but how much would you spend to achieve this? I have come across several example of business owners paying way more than they should be, one business had been charged $175 for a one year domain renewal….Outrageous

  • Domain name – $13-$15 a year
  • Hosting – $10-$20 a year max (this presumes your business doesn’t drive more than 25,000 unique visitors a month and is strictly hosting, no value added services)
  • Web Site – Depending on operational requirements I would say a basic site development would cost between $500 and $2000
  • Maintenance – Completely dependent on site owner
  • SEO work – This is a tricky one but it would highly depend on how the web site is set up

Most small businesses don’t see a lot of traffic to their site and some hosting companies prey on people that think they do or will.  I have seen hosting fees in the range of a few hundred dollars a month when the company only received a few hundred visitors a month.  Assuming that because you are a business you need to pay for top if the line hosting is a common trap, I would highly suggest that you start off basic and move up as you see traffic and bandwidth increase.

If you have any questions or issues drop me a line and I would be more than happy to help.
